What is Computer Vision Syndrome

Computer Vision Syndrome

Computer Vision Syndrome refers to the repetitive stress disorder characterized by a multitude of symptoms – like eye-strain, tired eyes, irritation, burning sensations, redness of eyes, dry eyes, blurred, and double vision.

Reading from a digital screen is a lot harder than reading a printed page. The text on the digital screens is usually not as sharp, the contrast-level of the text to the background is reduced, and the presence of glare and reflections on the screen may make viewing difficult. Besides, the viewing angles and distances while using computers are very different compared to usual reading. All this leads to significantly higher demands on the eye compared to the near-sight use that it was designs for – resulting in many people developing the vision-related complications.
While the overuse of computers itself poses vision problems, the symptoms often get magnified if the vision isn’t corrected or is under-corrected in the first place.
